November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month

Image may contain: dog, cat and text

I was at the shelter last, Fri, 10 to noon. That being my usual day & time to volunteer. Of the kitties that are currently available for adoption, we have one four year old & another that might be that age or a little older. Neither are seniors. As for the dogs, I don’t think we have any in that age range either.

Since cats can often live longer than dogs, especially if they’re indoor only, senior often starts for them at past 10. For many dogs, that age is their upper limit. So, being a senior for them is considered what the last 25% of their life is.

We have two senior kitties. Both 11. Though, the way they run around, chase & wrestle each other, you’d never know it. Do you have or have you had an older animal companion?

National Clear the Shelter Day–Aug 19, 2017

NBC and Telemundo owned stations are teaming up with hundreds of shelters across the country to host Clear the Shelters, a nationwide pet adoption drive on Saturday, August 19 to help find loving homes for animals in need. Over 50,000 pets found their forever homes in 2016. The shelter I volunteer at will be participating in this. As seen by the graphic below. What about ones in your area? Do they have something similar in other countries. Go to, Clear the Shelters, to learn more.

Keeping Your Pets Safe on Guy Fawkes Day (Nov 5)

This is primarily for my British friends & readers. Though, it can also pertain to others who are currently living in England. Today is Guy Fawkes Day. You may read about it by going to, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Fawkes_Night. Since fireworks & bonfires usually take place at night, it is probably going on as I type this. Please remember to keep your cats, dogs & other pets safely inside, as, what might be a celebration for humans, can be upsetting loud noises for our animal companions. Thanks for being mindful of this.

One Step for Animals

One Step for Animals is an organization located in Tucson, AZ. Following is part of what’s on their About Me. To learn more, please go to the link below. We aren’t trying to promote a particular philosophy, worldview, diet, or lifestyle. Our bottom line is not how many people we can convince to think exactly like we do, but how many fewer animals are suffering and dying.

Nearly everyone opposes cruelty to animals and is sickened when they see animals being brutalized. If we can reach out to everyone where they are and get them to take just one meaningful step to help animals – instead of insisting or implying they must adopt our preferred worldview and lifestyle – we will be able to save many more animals from the horrors of factory farms and slaughterhouses.

We know from experience – and basic psychology – that people tend to evolve slowly over time, with change occurring step by step. If approached positively and constructively, nearly everyone would help animals. Rather than seeing one step as simply “a good start” toward some ideal, we recognize every single compassionate step is, in and of itself, a genuine advance, a true victory to be celebrated. http://www.onestepforanimals.org/

Why Aren’t There More Animal Movies?

I was talking with my husband that there don’t seem to be that many films about animals. Live action or animated. Maybe studios don’t think they’d do that well. Even though there are many animal lovers. It doesn’t even have to be mammals. There are fish, birds & reptiles as well. When you care about the welfare & well being, it goes beyond domesticated pets. It’s for those on farms, in jungles, deserts, the arctic, oceans, etc. Of course, there are many people that have animal companions. Primarily cats & dogs. It’s surprising there aren’t more movies about those, at least. I believe people would be interested. I know my husband & I would go to them. We haven’t seen, Secret Life of Pets yet, but, we’re both fans of animation. I’m sure that will be in our collection. One of my favorite films featuring animals is, Babe. Which ones do you like?

What This Blog is About

I’m 47 & have been an animal lover my whole life. I have a special affinity for kitties, as, I’ve literally had them in my life since I was born. Many of those were adopted or came to us as strays. I’ve continued that with my husband. Who also has had cats his whole life.

Most of the information I post on here will be about lost/found pets & animals to foster/adopt. Primarily from NorCal, as, that’s the area we’re in. As this will be an international readership, there will also be some from other states & countries. If you’d like something added, please contact me.

Much of what I put on here will be uplifting. Though, I am a realist, so, sometimes there will be mention of the unpleasant side, including, those who neglect & abuse animals. The more people who are aware of this reprehensible behavior, the sooner we can eradicate it all together. Thanks for stopping by & hope that you enjoy your time here.
