Kitty Volunteers Needed at the Ukiah Shelter

kittyvolunteer

This is the shelter I volunteer at. There are more animals needing attention & affection than people to help out, especially with the kitties. The following was posted by Shanna Phillips on the Friends of Ukiah Animal Shelter page on Facebook: Mendo Shelter Pets Rescue is looking for a few feline fanatics to help with the kitties at The Ukiah Animal Shelter. The volunteer position involves hanging out with some really rad cats and gathering information for us to write up bio’s and capturing their true personalities through photographs. The reward of helping dozens of cats have the ability to be marketed in a way to assist with them finding their own fur-ever homes is repaid in peaceful purrs and endless kneading. We can’t do it with out your help! So if you are interested in making the lives of the cats at The Ukiah Animal Shelter better, please message us, send us an email at info@mendoshelterpets.com or give Shanna a call at (707)972-9359.

  1. Mr Midnight, Sir Winston and myself would love to help you but as Sir Winston pointed it out to Mr Midnight and myself, he doesn´t think your shelter is in the Black Forest with a name like Ukiah. We´ll continue to do what we can at our end and wish you all the best of luck finding somebody. Best regards. 🙂

    • They are correct. It’s in the town I live, which is in northern California. You mean to say, that, Mr Midnight & Sir Winston have not taught you how to teleport? It would be quite useful at times like this 🙂

      • They´re not as clever as they make out to be and still working on it. We know people in Sonoma which happens to be in your State but we still haven´t fathomed the art of teleporting yet. Sorry. 🙂

      • Of course, you do realize, cats will acquire information they don’t readily convey to their people.Who knows what’s up their little furry sleeves. I’m a Sonoma Co native. Originally from Sebastopol. My husband & I live north of there now. Are your friends from Europe, US, somewhere else?

  2. Our friends are native Americans and I am a passive member of their small world wide group which is called “Eloheim”. My partner is really into “Eloheim” and it has changed her life. They held a retreat in Austria two years ago and a retreat in London last year. We will get to the States one day because we´d love to visit California. I will have a problem leaving my two kitties though for such a long time stretch so they´d better hurry up explainiing how this “teleport” business functions. Best regards out of the magical Black Forest and thank you for your kind reply. 🙂

    • I had never heard of that. I figure, as long as something isn’t harming a person or others in any way & in fact, is uplifting & enhancing, so be it. CA is a large & diverse state. I always recommend visiting different parts of it, as, each county, each town, really, have their own rhythm & flavor. It’s good to see as much as possible to get a good idea of it.

      • Most people are not aware of Eloheim which is fine because it requires an open-mind and for most, I suppose will appear rather whacky – but not more whackier than what many of us have been indoctrinated with!. We will get over to California one day and I bet it´s very exctiting living in such a diverse part of the world. Best wishes from the three of us.

      • Sir Winston can´t get enough, but he´s very shy, so only from people he knows and Mr Midnight has his early morning and early evening ritual of wanting to be stroked and cuddled. They are quite opposite to one another in character.

      • They all have their own distinct personalities. At the shelter, I meet them on their terms. I know they’re all stressed to be there & some are withdrawn at first. I just talk soothingly to them & let them sniff my hand, if, they’re not ready to come out of the cage or receive pets. When they get used to my scent & recognize I’m a friend, then, each successive visit, they become more responsive.

      • When we first got Sir Winston we just left him under the bed for three weeks. That´s the place where he wanted to be. And then one morning I was in the kitchen and I suddenly noticed a furry weight being pushed onto my legs. I knew that given time, he would find his own way. Now he´s the most loving cat I have ever known. Mr Midnight was “all there” right from the start but because we also got them from a shelter we noticed that they had had a rough ride in their early years.

      • Did you know their back story? If it’s an owner surrender, there’s usually some information. If they were a found animal, then, often the staff & volunteers can only go by what they learn while the animal is there. Thank you for adopting.

      • We have no idea where they came from. Initially we only wanted one cat (Sir Winston) but the shelter “begged us” to take Mr Midnight as well because they had bonded in the shelter and nobody wanted them. They both had problems – Sir Winston was frightened of EVERYONE and Mr Midnight has a torn ear although it doesn´t look bad and seems to impair him, he sneezes quite often (although it´s a lot better now) and he is a bit dopey in the fact that he often “half-falls” of furniture or whatever.
We love them both to bits and we live in the knowledge that they at least have a much better life now than they did back then (5 years ago). Thank you for your interest. Mr Midnight and Sir Winston are not used to having a “stranger” enquire so much about them. 🙂

      • If I was there, I’d give them lovies, whenever they were ready. I’m inquisitive by nature (like a cat) & certainly ask questions if I’m interested in something or someone. Some animals do bond & I’m glad that you & your partner were able to take them both in. I’m sure they do have a much better life. You’re all fortunate to have each other.

      • Thank you for your inquisitive nature. Mr Midnight says that you were obviously a cat in one of your past lives. We are all very thankful for one another and believe that our “lads” brighten our lives everyday. Kind regards.
